Diet

A rabbit's diet should be made up of fresh hay (timothy or grass), fresh leafy dark green vegetables, some fruit, water and (once 6 months old) begin to limit the quantity of pellets being fed. Anything beyond that is a "treat" and should be given in limited quantities. Pellets should be fresh, high in fiber and low in fat. The first ingredient on the list should be alfalfa (not corn or grains, etc.) Do not purchase more than 8 weeks worth of feed at a time as the nutrients are lessened as pellets age. Pellets should not contain nuts or seeds or other colorful items. They should make up less of a rabbit's diet as he or she grows older, and hay should be available 24 hours a day.
