Finally! Low-Cost Rabbit Spaying & Neutering
We are pleased to announce that, thanks to Seattle Animal Shelter, the neutering/spaying of our hoppy friends will once again be available for very reasonable prices in the Seattle area.  (You don't have to be a Seattle resident to take advantage of this service.) Effective from January 02, 2013, Seattle Animal Shelter will perform spay and neuter surgeries for a very reasonable fee of $75. The fee includes pre-emptive pain management, antibiotics and loving professional care. Mary Ellen Zoulas, DVM, will be in charge of these surgeries.

Dr. Zoulas’ experience at altering rabbits dates back to 1996, when she first helped us with the Redmond Rabbit Rescue. This is the first time since the passing of Dr. Barbara Deeb in 2005 that spaying/neutering a rabbit can be done for a reasonable fee.

Contact Seattle Animal Shelter-Spay/Neuter Clinic to schedule an appointment at 206-386-4260.  See here for more details. For the Tacoma area rabbits: Coalition Humane is also performing low-cost spay/neuter surgeries. Their prices: $85 per female rabbit, $75 per male rabbit.

We wish Seattle Animal Shelter and Coalition Humane a very Hoppy New Year!
Adorable Adoptables
Happy
Don't you have room for just one more bunny? Especially one named Happy!  He is as white as snow, with eyes like a clear winter day.  Born on November 24, 2010, he is just barely two years old.  Along with his brothers, he was dumped at Everett Animal Shelter.  Now he is waiting at our Redmond shelter for his forever home with you.

BigJohn
Also born in November 2010 is Big John, a social guinea pig who likes lots of pets (and treats!).  He has been neutered, and he's waiting at our Seattle store to meet you.  Never had a guinea pig? Just ask us--we have lots of information to help you become a piggy fan.

Volunteer to Get Your Bunny Fix!
If you cannot have a rabbit where you currently live, or if you have some extra time, you can volunteer with Rabbit Meadows to get your weekly "bunny fix"!  Here are our current volunteer needs:

April 2013 Silent Auction Head Volunteer: We need someone who can start right away to (1) recruit volunteers for our annual silent auction; (2) find potential donors (in addition to our past donors); (3) send out procurement forms; (4) track items donated; and (4) pick up last-minute items from donors as needed.  No experience is necessary.  If you know one or more high school students who need to satisfy community service project requirements (and show leadership for their college applications!), a retiree who would like to help rabbits, or someone seeking nonprofit/leadership experience for a résumé, please let them know about this opportunity! (Pat Bailey has signed up and is ready to start!)

Electrical Contractor to help obtain a permit for the new shelter.

Bookkeeper to provide assistance once a month at our Redmond location.

Petfinder.com Adoption Information Volunteer to set up and maintain our data on their website.  This can be done from your home.

Cleaning Volunteer to clean rabbit cages weekly (approximately 3 hours on either Tuesday, Wednesday, OR Friday--OR start at 10 am on the weekend).  We request a 3-month commitment.

And a huge thanks to all our loyal volunteers.  We simply could not do it without you!

We Love Rabbit Haven & Sue!
Sue Brennan, founder of Rabbit Haven, called a few days ago to tell me she was giving Rabbit Meadows a Christmas gift.  I've known Sue for around 25 years; we both started rescuing rabbits at nearly the same time, but we never gifted before (unless it involved rabbits or chinchillas), so I was very curious.
Sue and her husband, Brian, have a construction company.  Sue said she was sending her husband and one of their workers up to Redmond to finish the siding on the top half of our building!  That is the last step before calling the building inspector to finalize the Phase I permit on our new shelter!

Thank you so much, Sue.  This is indeed a very Merry Christmas for Rabbit Meadows and all of our critters.                                - Sandi
